We can’t change our past, but together we can shape our future. Join the JCC of Central NJ for an extraordinary journey from Poland to Israel. Together we will march in the faded footprints of our ancestors, and trace the path that took the Jewish people out of one of our darkest chapters in history (the Holocust) to one of the brightest (the birth of the State of Israel).

A Journey From Darkness to Light

Trip Details

Overview

Our journey from darkness to light will begin in Poland. We will explore the richness of Jewish life that existed in Krakow, Lublin, and Warsaw at the start of the 20th century. We will take a walking tour through the Warsaw Ghetto and other Jewish quarters, and visit the hallowed grounds of Treblinka, Majdanek and Auschwitz-Birkenau. We will strive to discover the remnants – and in some cases, the revival – of Jewish life through visits to the new Museum and to a Polish JCC that is inspiring connections for a new generation of young Jewish adults.

Coming out of Poland, we will travel together to Jerusalem as we make aliyah to Israel. With heavy hearts and a new appreciation for all that was lost from our history, we will arrive in time to experience the solemnity of Israel’s Memorial Day (Yom Hazikaron), and share that quiet moment with Israel. Then, just as quickly and with a renewed spirit and lightness that comes from seeing modern Jewish life in Israel, we will experience the jubilation of their Independence Day (Yom Ha’atzmaut) alongside American soldiers in the Israeli army.

On this journey, we will learn, share stories, gain understanding, mourn together, celebrate together, and become inspired. Join us as we learn from yesterday to build a better tomorrow.

• Your one-way flight from Warsaw to Tel Aviv is included in the cost of the trip.

Do I need a Passport or Visa?

• Americans, Canadians and citizens of most western countries need just a passport to travel to Poland and Israel: no visa is required. Your passport must be valid for at least six months from the date you enter the country.

I am Shabbat observant. Is there an option for spending Shabbat in Warsaw?

• Wherever possible, lunch and dinner in Poland will be Kosher or vegetarian style.

• All meals in Israel will be kosher.

Do I need travel or medical insurance, and if so what type of coverage?

• We strongly advise you to purchase travel/medical insurance at the time of paying for the trip for maximum coverage. For suggestions on insurance companies, contact Sababa Travel for more information.

• For best coverage, this should be purchased at the same time as booking your trip. There are different types of coverage, but they basically fall into two categories: one covers a range of reasons for cancellation, but not all; and the other allows you to cancel for any reason. Additionally medical transport insurance can be purchased through Medjetassist.

What about safety and security?

• Our group’s safety in Poland and Israel is our number one priority. Should there be any escalation of any kind, we make thorough decisions as to how modify our program so as to distance the group from whatever geographic area is the hot spot or make any necessary changes based on the situation that arises. We take great care to be communicative at all times with our participants so they feel updated, aware, and reassured.

Do I need to receive any special vaccinations before my trip?

• No vaccinations are required to visit Poland or Israel.
